Income tax brackets
These are marginal rates — each rate applies only to the income within its band.

| $78,101 – $180,000 | 33.0% |
| $180,001 and over | 39.0% |
ACC earners’ levy
- Rate: 1.75% of liable earnings.
- Charged on income up to $156,641 a year.
- Maximum levy: $2,741 a year.
KiwiSaver
- Default minimum employee contribution: 3.5% from 1 April 2026.
- Other rates you can choose: 4%, 6%, 8% or 10% (and 3% as a temporary reduction).
- Minimum employer contribution: 3.5%, paid on top of your wages.
Independent earner tax credit (IETC)
- Up to $520 a year.
- Available for income between $24,000 and $70,000.
- Reduces by 13 cents per dollar earned over $66,000.
Student loan
- Repayment rate: 12% of income over the threshold.
- Repayment threshold: $24,128 a year ($464 a week).
